“The Universe will push in on you. In fact it might try to crush you and kill you sometimes..."
This is the conversation that I'm having with my twelve-year-old...
"Once you’ve decided to stay alive ..." This is an existential conversation about... wait for it... existence. I continue.
"Onee youve decided to stay alive, you must decide what shape you will hold in this life. And the Universe will test it. This is what I mean when I say shape:
"As you learn how things go together and come apart in this life, as you practice and gain confidence in these skills, as you learn the equations of being, you will start to have a 'shape'. The ways someone might describe you, or how you think, act, feel, speak, etc.; all of these are your 'shape'.
"So you will generate an idea of who you are; your 'shape'.
"Then, one of the most powerful tools the Universe uses to test your shape is love.
He looks at me pretty inquisitively about this idea. I slow down. I breathe.
“Remember that shape you think you want to hold?" He nods.
"When you meet a girl, you will present yourself to her in that shape that you intend to hold; in some sense you are like a strutting peacock: you are trying to 'win' her. You are trying to show her what you are all about.
"And here's the thing: She will test it. She will poke at it and she will be determined to find out if you really will hold your shape. If you are for real. She needs to be certain if it's real. And the more attractive she is, the more she will be able to poke right through all of your bullshit. Because here's the thing son, the Universe will not be fooled, and a woman that commands your attraction will not be fooled either. She will poke at you relentlessly if you are full of shit. But we can’t judge them for it. Neither the Universe nor women are very consciously aware of this. It is almost certainly subconscious. And honestly, we should be grateful that it's this way... ... it makes us better men.
"So remember this son: If it feels like a woman is giving you shit, it’s really not because she’s trying to be a bitch (she's not), it’s because some part of her (probably subconscious) can’t tell if you are for real or not. When a guy's giving you shit, he's not trying to be an asshole, it's the same reason: he can't tell if you're for real or not, about something. And when the Universe gives you shit, same reason: The Universe can’t tell if you are for real or not, about some particular thing... and it’s pretty much all subconscious, all the time.... ... so it does absolutely no good to be pissed at the Universe, or assholes, or women who are giving you shit.
"The only positive response you can generate when the Universe is testing you, is to double down on what you are trying to pull off. You can only do your work."
